ILIW Playlist 002 – Young ParisPosted On May 7th, 2014 by Candice Pantin
A year ago I was zipping through a crowd during Renata Morales The 8-Day Week event held at the Phi Centre and I came across a performer with a star power so bright you could spot it a mile away. Who, what, how? “I’m Paris”. Young Paris to be exact. With such an evocative stage name I was equally impressed by this singer/songwriter/producer’s music. The genre is a hybrid between rap and electro with a heavy beat of Afro base. He’s worked with an international roaster of artist such Radio Radio, Emmanuel Jal and was recently invited to Arcade Fire’s KANPE Kanaval 2014. Hailing from Hudson New York, born in Paris (hence the name), he comes from an artistic family of 9 brothers and sisters and let’s just say that he was destined to entertain. Born to a Congolese father who founded the First National Ballet of the Congo and an American mother, a dancer in her own right, it’s easy to see where Paris draws his inspiration. Just like most artist, style is also an expression of his brand- that night Paris was donning traditional face painting and African batik print harem pants.
With an equally infectious positive energy, we’ve become friends since and luckily he said yes to the I Like I Wear playlist request! Just like these matching portraits, the mix is bold, colourful, and moving. Enjoy and play it loud here–> https://soundcloud.com/ilikeiwear/iliw-playlist-002-young-paris
