Flashback Friday: Versace Campaigns
Posted On August 8th, 2014 by Candice PantinWhen thinking of the house of Versace, we at ILIW tend to think of two things: Drake and #luxury. The Italian fashion company, founded by Gianni Versace in the late seventies, is classic and très, très cool (the latter is obvious given Drake’s attachment, but, you know, it needed to be restated for emphasis). Throwing it back to the eighties, the corresponding campaigns represent a cultural phenomenon different from our own: While the fashion world today glorifies normcore and minimalism (cue dreams of Celine A/W14), the attached ads display a lust for luxe. Not only this, but the women in the campaigns are made to look supernatural. This was the beginning of the age of the supermodel, where models wouldn’t “wake up for less than $10,000 a day”. Unlike stars such as Cara Delevigne, these girls were entirely unapproachable. Although we may not miss the days of you-can’t-sit-with-us models, we definitely love the look of these campaigns.
